# All Saints, Wyke Regis

All Saints is a Grade I parish church on Portland Road, Wyke Regis, Weymouth, in the Diocese of Salisbury. It was the mother church of Weymouth until other town churches were built in the nineteenth century.

## Overview

Historic England and the Dorset Historic Environment Record record a church entirely rebuilt and rededicated in 1455 and structurally almost unaltered since. Wikipedia, citing the listing, gives the reconsecration date as 19 October 1455 and notes a church on the site from 1172. The Royal Commission described it as a remarkably consistent and unchanged fifteenth-century design. Fabric is Portland stone ashlar with lead roofs and stone slate to the porch.

The regular plan has a five-bay nave continuous with the chancel, north and south aisles, a four-stage west tower, south porch and north-east vestry. The tower has string courses, set-back buttresses, a crenellated parapet and a north-east octagonal stair turret. The west doorway is blocked beneath a lofty three-light window. English oak pews with individual carvings date from a reseating of 1859, when a gallery was removed. A lychgate of 1896 is by George Fellowes Prynne.
