# St Katharine, Wormington

St Katharine's (listed as Church of St Catherine) is a Grade II* parish church on Main Street, Wormington, Gloucestershire, in the Diocese of Gloucester.

## Overview

Historic England records a small Anglican church reputed to have been built by the Abbot of Hailes in 1475, probably on the site of a twelfth-century church, altered about 1800, with fixtures by Ernest Gimson installed in 1926. The west end of the nave is rubble; otherwise the fabric is random squared and dressed limestone under a stone-slate roof. The plan is a small nave with north and south aisles, dormers in the position of transepts, a chancel with a parallel north vestry, and a white weatherboarded western bell turret with a pyramidal roof. Five twelfth-century corbels survive below the bell turret.

Gimson's work includes a nine-panel west door, simple oak pews, an octagonal oak pulpit and a communion rail. The east window is by Morris and Co., in memory of Francis Clayton (d. 1912). Fragments of fifteenth-century glass remain in the western aisle windows. A brass to Anne Savage (d. 1605) shows a bedchamber scene. The parish site notes a stone crucifix excavated at Wormington Grange and thought to have come from Winchcombe Abbey. The church is open daily from 9am to 5pm.
