# Woodhall Spa Methodist Church

Woodhall Spa Methodist Church is the working Wesleyan chapel on Iddesleigh Road, the 1899 school-chapel to which the congregation returned after selling the larger Broadway church.

## Overview

My Wesleyan Methodists records that Wesleyans in the growing spa town had used a preaching house and a tabernacle at Kirkstead before a scheme by John Willis of Derby and London produced a school-chapel on Iddesleigh Road, completed in 1899. Builders were William Jackson of Coningsby and William Dickenson of Tattershall. The Woodhall Spa community history adds that land behind the Broadway was given in 1898 and that the first child baptised in the new chapel was Ivy Belton.

When the congregation outgrew the school-chapel, a larger late-Gothic church with tower and spire was built immediately to the south, fronting the Broadway, to designs by Thompson of Louth. Lincolnshire Heritage Explorer dates that building to 1907, at a cost of about £4,000, in red brick with a stone string course and traceried windows. It opened on 5 August 1907. Falling numbers and repair costs led members to move back into the 1899 building in 1992; the Broadway chapel was sold and converted. The Iddesleigh Road chapel remains open in the Mid-Lincolnshire Methodist Circuit. It is not on the National Heritage List for England.
