# Wesley Centre, Malton

The Wesley Centre at 10 Saville Street, Malton, is a Grade II* Wesleyan chapel of 1811, now a restored Methodist church and community venue whose interior Historic England has called rare and of exceptional interest.

## Overview

John Wesley preached in Malton in the 1770s. The present chapel was built in 1811. Historic England records a two-storey, five-bay front of mottled brick, the three centre bays pedimented and breaking forward, with a Tuscan doorcase, traceried fanlights and Y-traceried round-headed windows. The listing notes that large chapels of this type have been particularly susceptible to change, making the survival of the Malton interior exceptional.

The building was listed Grade II on 10 June 1974 and upgraded to Grade II* in 1995 (NHLE 1220043); listing NGR SE7866371684. After roof defects were found in 2015 the congregation raised funds to restore the chapel rather than sell it. The restored building continues to host Methodist worship and has been adapted as a concert venue and café.
