# St Nicholas, Warwick

St Nicholas is a Grade I parish church on Church Street, Warwick, opposite the castle gate, in the Diocese of Coventry. Historic England calls it an important feature of the old town approached from Castle Bridge.

## Overview

The listing records a church rebuilt in the eighteenth century on the site of a medieval building. The west steeple with porch was rebuilt in 1748, perhaps by Job Collins, and probably altered when Thomas Johnson of Warwick rebuilt the body in 1779-80 in a mixed Perpendicular and Flamboyant style. The nave has wide high aisles forming a nearly square rectangle. John Gibson added a Decorated-style chancel in 1869-70.

Historic England's visitor note describes a Georgian Gothic church of 1785 by Johnson replacing a medieval church with Saxon origins, its history linked to Warwick Castle. Interior features in the listing include two carved wall monuments of 1656 in the porch, a west gallery, a brass of 1424 and a carved monument of 1734 with putti and cherubim. The church is open daily from 10am to 4pm and has accessible toilets.
