# Presbyterian Church, Waringstown

Waringstown Presbyterian Church on Mill Hill, Waringstown, County Down, is a Grade B+ Italianate church designed by Charles Lanyon and opened in 1853. Imported records list the denomination as Congregational; the congregation is Presbyterian Church in Ireland.

## Overview

The congregation’s history records Presbyterian worship in Waringstown from 1846 and the opening of the present building in 1853. Lanyon, architect of Queen’s University Belfast, designed a west front with two ornate towers. The Northern Ireland Stone Database describes an Italianate rendered front with sandstone plinth, columns and cills, a central alcove with side doors flanked by Doric columns, Venetian-style round-arched ground-floor windows, and square Italianate towers with open arcades and hipped slate roofs. The hall behind is five bays of basalt rubble with red-brick dressings.

The building is Northern Ireland listed building HB14/06/016 (Grade B+, listed 14 August 1981). Listing URLs for Northern Ireland are not used in the Gazette list-entry field. The Presbyterian Church in Ireland has no diocese.
