# Central Hall Methodist Church, Walsall

Central Hall Methodist Church on Ablewell Street, Walsall, is an unlisted town-centre Methodist church whose early Victorian building of 1849 was given a 1929 cinema-style frontage.

## Overview

Walsall’s local list records a large early Victorian Methodist church of 1849 in red brick with stone dressings and tall round-headed windows, its original Classical front masked by a 1929 extension, with an impressive interior of good surviving features. The 1929 reconstruction as a Central Hall was by Brocklehurst and Company, contractor J. & F. Wootton Ltd of Walsall. The horseshoe worship space was once the upper gallery of a church seating over a thousand; a floor inserted in the 1970s created office space below, now used for advice and foodbank work, and the church was refurbished as a Millennium project. A Nicholson & Lord organ remains in use. The building is not on the National Heritage List for England. It belongs to the Hidden River Methodist Circuit.
