# Ulrika Eleonora, Marylebone

Ulrika Eleonora is the Swedish Lutheran church on Harcourt Street, Marylebone, a Grade II building of 1910–11 that serves the Church of Sweden Abroad congregation in London.

## Overview

Historic England lists the Swedish Church as a church flanked by subsidiary wings, with a 1910 foundation stone, by Wigglesworth and A. H. Hagg. It is ashlar faced, with Welsh slate roofs and a copper fleche at the west end of the nave. The listing describes eclectic Arts and Crafts Gothic for the church and Jacobean domestic character for the side wings. The church sits at first-floor level, flanked by offices: a two-bay nave with a single-bay lower chancel. The Harcourt Street front has a gabled west wall with a projecting porch, flanked by three-storey wings with dormers. The porch has a shafted pointed arch between embattled pilaster buttresses, with an inscription plaque giving the foundation date. Interior fittings include a timber west gallery and organ loft with blind tracery, a barrel vault with moulded decoration, a tall moulded chancel arch, and a rose window to the east.

The present church replaced the Swedish church opened in Princes Square, Wapping, in 1728. Altar, pulpit, fonts and chandeliers were brought from the Wapping building. The parish is part of the Church of Sweden Abroad (Svenska kyrkan i utlandet). Opening hours are Monday to Friday 10am to 3pm and Sunday 11am to 1pm, with level access to the main areas.
