# Trinity Centre, Louth

The Trinity Centre on Eastgate, Louth, Lincolnshire, is the third church on the Holy Trinity site, a 1997 church and community centre that incorporates the surviving west tower of the 1866 church, in the Diocese of Lincoln and the Team Parish of Louth.

## Overview

The Church Heritage Record states that the first church on the site was built in 1834 to a Georgian design by the Louth architect C. J. Carter. It was replaced in 1866, set slightly to the north, by Rogers and Marsden of Louth: an aisled nave, chancel with gabled vestries, and a massive northwest tower with an octagonal top and a higher polygonal stair turret. An arson attack in 1991 destroyed all but that tower. The tower was incorporated into a new church and community centre, completed and consecrated in 1997, designed by Sebastian Rowe of the Hill Rowe Partnership of Ripon. The Bishop of Lincoln, Robert Hardy, dedicated the building.

Lincolnshire Heritage Explorer records the 1866 church (MLI86525) and notes that the tower remains a landmark on the street. The Team Parish describes a worship area lit by stained glass fragments salvaged from the fire, set high so that colour washes the east wall. The building is not listed; it stands in the Louth Conservation Area. The site has archaeological potential for the earlier churches and burials south of the modern building.
