# St Andrew, Thurning

St Andrew’s is a Grade II* parish church on Reepham Road, Thurning, Norfolk, in the Diocese of Norwich and the Reepham and Wensum Valley team.

## Overview

Historic England records a fourteenth-century west tower, nave and north aisle, with later Perpendicular details. The fabric is Quaternary and quarry flint with Lincolnshire limestone dressings and a slated roof. The plan is west tower, nave, north aisle and south porch; the chancel is in ruins. The unbuttressed tower has a west lancet, Decorated south belfry window and a flushwork battlemented parapet. The three-light east window with reticulated tracery, and a former priest’s door, were re-erected in the nave east wall when the chancel was taken down.

The listing attributes the furnishings to James Burroughs for Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, brought to Thurning by the rector. They include a three-decker pulpit, sanctuary panelling and box pews filling the north aisle. Simon Knott and the benefice date the demolition of the ruined chancel to the early eighteenth century (the rector was excused rebuilding it in 1719) and the transfer of the college chapel woodwork to 1824. Corpus Christi remains patron.
