Overview
Historic England lists a parish church rebuilt in 1933–35 after a fire by Austin and Paley, except the fifteenth-century west tower. The fabric is limestone rubble with sandstone dressings and a Westmorland slate roof: south porch, four-stage west tower, four-bay nave and aisles, north and south chapels and a two-bay chancel. The tower has a pointed west door, a three-light traceried window, two-light belfry openings, diagonal buttresses, an embattled parapet and a late-nineteenth-century pyramidal slate spire. The interior of about 1935 mixes pointed south-arcade arches with Romanesque-style north arches (one with zigzag) and jointed cruck roof trusses with windbraces. Memorials include the Redmayne family of Thornton Hall (1678–1703) and Edward Talbot Day Foxcroft of Halsteads. The listing notes that the church was apparently rebuilt after the fire to a design of about 1870. Listing NGR: SD6857173618.
