# St Cuthbert, Thetford

St Cuthbert’s is a Grade II* parish church on King Street in the centre of Thetford, Norfolk, largely thirteenth-century with a Victorian tower, in the Diocese of Norwich.

## Overview

Historic England dates the parish church to the early thirteenth century, fifteenth century and later. The west tower was rebuilt after a collapse in 1851; the north aisle was added in 1902. Materials are whole pebbles, flint and ashlar dressings with slate roofs. The plan is west tower, nave, aisles and chancel. The three-stage tower has set-back stepped buttresses, a cusped lancet, and two-light belfry windows. There is a gabled south porch. Interior arcades run to four bays on the north and five on the south, on octagonal piers with double-chamfered arches; the west bay of the nave and the whole north side date from 1902. The chancel roof is of 1882. A double late-thirteenth-century piscina survives, and a square eleventh-century font bowl with incised arcading stands on a later octagonal shaft.

The parish is Thetford St Cuthbert, in the Diocese of Norwich. Listing NGR is TL 87120 83067.
