# Tabernacle URC, Pembroke

Tabernacle United Reformed Church on Main Street, Pembroke, is a Grade II Gothic Revival chapel of 1867–68 by the Rev. Thomas Thomas of Landore, built for a Congregational congregation founded in 1811.

## Overview

Cadw records a Congregational church of 1867–68, built for £1,840 by W. Allen of Pembroke Dock (about £3,500 with the manse). The gable façade is rock-faced grey limestone with Bath stone tracery: a five-light pointed window, twin Gothic doorcases, and flanking towers, one with an octagonal spire. A ribbon scroll reads ‘1811 Tabernacle 1867’. Thomas, minister-architect of many Welsh chapels, used an unusually elaborate Gothic here. A Conacher organ was added in 1900; the interior was renovated in 1911. The earlier Independent chapel of 1811 survives nearby on New Way, converted to flats. Cadw listed the present building at Grade II on 14 July 1981 (reference 6387) for its architectural interest and prominence on the town skyline. The congregation is now United Reformed.
