# Stirling Methodist Church

Stirling Methodist Church is a Category B listed Wesleyan church at 19½ Queen Street, Stirling, set back from the street against the crags of Castle Rock.

## Overview

Historic Environment Scotland records a simple plain-ashlar Jacobean church of about 1840–50: a three-bay rectangular building with a shaped-gable facade, two small arched flanking windows, an arched window above the door, and a central hood-moulded arched doorway with label stops, an obelisk finial and corbelled angle pinnacles. The land was feued on 3 July 1841 by John Kyle on behalf of the Wesleyan Society from the patrons of Cowane’s Hospital, with a commitment to build a church within four years. A low retaining wall and iron railings with two gated entrances enclose the front; two traditional gas lanterns dating to 1877 remain (rewired and reglazed in 1984).

The congregation is one of only three Methodist churches in central Scotland and draws members from a wide area, including students and visitors. The building was refurbished in 2025 for church and community use. Scottish listing is Category B (LB41091); the official designation is on the Historic Environment Scotland portal, not Historic England or Cadw.
