# St Cyr, Stinchcombe

St Cyr’s, Stinchcombe, is a Grade II* parish church largely rebuilt in Decorated style in 1855 by J. L. Pearson, retaining a fifteenth-century tower and porch, in the Diocese of Gloucester.

## Overview

A chapel at Stinchcombe is recorded in 1156, granted with Cam to St Peter’s Abbey, Gloucester. None of that early fabric survives. Historic England records an Anglican parish church, part fifteenth century but largely as rebuilt in 1855 by Pearson: nave, chancel, south aisle, two-storey north porch, and a three-stage west tower with octagonal spire rebuilt in 1882 after a lightning strike. The fabric is Cotswold limestone with stone-slate roofs. Bell-stage openings of 1632 survive on the tower.

The interior has a four-bay nave with quatrefoil piers, stained glass by Wailes in the chancel and by Clayton and Bell in the nave and aisle, and a reredos of the Last Supper. A chapel here is associated with the Oxford Movement patrons who funded Pearson’s work. Listed Grade II* on 30 June 1961 (NHLE 1340554); listing NGR ST7296598865. The parish is Stinchcombe, in the Cam and Stinchcombe benefice.
