# St Wilfrid, Newbiggin Hall

St Wilfrid’s is the Church of England parish church of the Newbiggin Hall estate in Newcastle upon Tyne, a 1960s estate church in the Diocese of Newcastle.

## Overview

The housing estate at Newbiggin Hall was built in the 1960s. A contemporary amateur film records construction of the church between 1965 and 1967, including the laying of the foundation stone by Hugh Ashdown, Bishop of Newcastle. The church was dedicated in 1967 as a daughter church to St John’s, Whorlton, to serve the new estate. It stands on Trevelyan Drive in the estate centre.

The building is not on the National Heritage List for England. Published descriptions call it Modernist, with a quadrilateral plan. An official architect’s name has not been confirmed from a list entry or parish history. Exterior repairs and remodelling are reported in 1989.

The legal parish is Newbiggin Hall. No official parish website was found.
