# St Wilfrid, Kirkharle

St Wilfrid’s (listed as Church of St Wilfred) is a Grade I parish church at Kirkharle Courtyard, Northumberland, in the Diocese of Newcastle.

## Overview

Historic England records a fourteenth-century church with eighteenth-century work, restored in 1884. The fabric is dressed stone, with an ashlar west porch and vestry, under a Welsh slate roof. The plan is a two-bay nave, two-bay chancel, west porch and north vestry. Nave windows have Victorian Decorated tracery in fourteenth-century arched openings with original labels. The chancel has a priest’s door with two continuous hollow chamfers, a cusped ogee ‘low-side’ window, genuine fourteenth-century reticulated north windows, and a rebuilt east end with a five-light reticulated window. An early-eighteenth-century west bellcote has pilasters and a moulded round-arched cornice. Interior fittings include a chancel arch of two continuous chamfers, fourteenth-century sedilia and piscina, Victorian hammer-beam roofs, and a Perpendicular octagonal font from the old Church of All Saints, Newcastle. Local accounts associate a chantry founded by Sir William de Herle around 1336 with the present Decorated fabric.
