# St Wilfrid, Harrogate

St Wilfrid is a Grade I parish church on Duchy Road, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, in the Diocese of Leeds. Historic England attributes the main build of about 1909–14 to Temple Moore, with north and south transepts of about 1924–28 and a Lady Chapel of 1935 by Leslie Moore. The parish states that the church was consecrated in 1914 as the church for the Duchy Estate.

## Overview

The listing describes a large Early English Revival church in Bath stone ashlar with slated and tiled roofs: a three-bay nave with aisles, a three-bay chancel with clerestory, an octagonal Lady Chapel at the east with ambulatory, two-bay transepts, and a crenellated central tower with pyramidal roof. Windows are paired lancets; the west end has two three-light windows in a hexagonal bow. The interior has a stone rib-vaulted roof. Stained glass is recorded by Victor Milner.

Temple Moore died in 1920 before the church was complete; his son-in-law Leslie Moore finished the transepts, Lady Chapel, parish hall and verger's cottage. It is Harrogate's only Grade I listed building and is widely regarded as among Moore's finest churches. The parish continues in the Anglo-Catholic tradition for which the church was founded.
