# St Weonards

St Weonard’s is a Grade I parish church in the village of St Weonards, Herefordshire, on the A466 between Hereford and Monmouth, in the Diocese of Hereford.

## Overview

Historic England records a thirteenth-century nave; a sixteenth-century west tower, south porch, north chapel and north aisle; and a largely late-nineteenth-century chancel, restored in 1875 and 1884 when the chancel was extended and a vestry added. Fabric is square sandstone rubble and sandstone ashlar with stone slate roofs. The three-stage embattled west tower has diagonal buttresses and Y-tracery belfry openings. The parish history notes that the Mynors Chapel was built in 1521; the family still live at Treago Castle nearby.

The interior has a four-bay nave arcade on octagonal piers, a continuous sixteenth-century ceiled barrel roof to the north chapel and aisle, and an early sixteenth-century chancel screen with linenfold panels and a running vine frieze. Similar screens divide the north chapel. Fittings include a fifteenth-century octagonal font, a seventeenth-century pulpit, late seventeenth-century altar rails, a dugout chest, and Mynors monuments including a brass of 1684. Royal Arms over the south door are inscribed Semper Eadem. The churchyard retains the remains of a fifteenth-century cross.
