# St Vedast, Tathwell

St Vedast’s (listed as St Vedest) is the Grade II* church of Tathwell, Lincolnshire, an isolated hillside church with a Norman tower base and a largely Georgian brick body, in the Diocese of Lincoln.

## Overview

Historic England dates a parish church of the early twelfth century, altered in the late eighteenth century and in 1857. The lowest three and a half metres of the broad west tower are twelfth-century green sandstone; above, the tower is red brick with segmental-headed bell openings and brick-and-stone battlements. The nave has a south porch and a polygonal chancel with north vestry. A rubble plinth runs around the church, with brick above. Domesday Book records a church at Tathwell in 1086.

The Corpus of Romanesque Sculpture notes that the tower arch is early twelfth-century and that a north-east vestry and south porch were added about 1886. The dedication to St Vedast (Vaast of Arras) is uncommon in England. The church is a festival church in the parish of Raithby. It was listed Grade II* on 9 March 1967 (NHLE 1359666).
