# St Tysul, Llandysul

St Tysul is a Grade II* Church in Wales parish church beside the Teifi at Llandysul, Ceredigion, in the Diocese of St Davids. The town takes its name from the dedication to Tysul.

## Overview

Cadw records a thirteenth- to fifteenth-century church altered in 1829–31 by Rees Davies of Trewindsor and restored in 1873–4 by Middleton and Goodman of Cheltenham. The plan is a west tower, nave, aisles and chancel. The tall battered west tower is said to be thirteenth-century in origin with fifteenth-century details: a moulded pointed west door, a Perpendicular west window marked as renewed in 1847, two-light cusped bell-openings, corbel table, parapet and corner gargoyles. Cadw states that the church is said to have been thatched until 1783 and that the 1874 work rebuilt the chancel and raised the nave roof.

The interior has a rare rubble barrel vault in the tower, a reset Romano-British inscribed stone, and unmoulded pointed three-bay nave arcades on square rubble piers. There is a retooled medieval four-lobe font, an ornate 1874 stone pulpit by Boulton of Cheltenham, and an east window of about 1919 by W. E. Tower. A Grade II lychgate of 1933 stands northwest of the church.
