Overview
Cadw records a church of 1860 by R. K. Penson of Swansea, built on the site of an earlier church. The parish site states that worship on this high point between the Gwendraeth and Tywi valleys goes back to a sixth-century llan of Twrog, and that the church is linked with Llanarthne, Llangyndeyrn and Cwmffrwd in the Cydweli Local Ministry Area. The listing describes a Geometrical plan of nave, lower chancel, north aisle with the Luxley (Puxley) chapel, and a north-west tower and stone broach spire. The fabric is snecked red sandstone with slate roofs. Cadw easting/northing is 250313 / 216599.
Inside, nave and aisle have six-bay arched-brace roofs and a three-bay arcade; the north chapel is richer, with a Decorated arch, ballflower, a wooden screen and an ironwork screen to the sanctuary. Fittings include an octagonal font and a polygonal stone pulpit. Glass includes a chapel east window of 1908 by Curtis, Ward & Hughes, a 1994 west window by Janet Hardy, and a 1979 Tree of Life by John Petts. Cadw lists the church for its definite Gothic Revival character, prominent spire and interior detail (reference 9393).
