# St Thomas, Swansea

St Thomas’s Church between Lewis Street and Maes Street is a Grade II Church in Wales parish church of 1886–90 by Thomas Nicholson of Hereford, built for the Grenfell family in the Diocese of Swansea and Brecon.

## Overview

The foundation stone was laid on 17 June 1886 by Major-General Francis Grenfell. The nave of 1886–87 and the chancel of 1890, a memorial to Pascoe St Leger Grenfell (d. 1882), form a Decorated Gothic church in Puginian mould, with a landmark broach spire. Cadw records rock-faced stone with Bath stone dressings and an ornate reredos of red stone and gold mosaic. The south aisle was damaged by bombing in 1940 and repaired. The church was listed on 9 February 2004 (Cadw 82482). It remains the parish church of Swansea St Thomas and Kilvey.
