# St Rhian, Llanrhian

St Rhian's is a Grade II* Church in Wales parish church in Llanrhian, Pembrokeshire, in the Diocese of St Davids and the Greater Dewisland Local Ministry Area.

## Overview

Cadw records a thirteenth- or fourteenth-century west tower and a cruciform nave of 1836 by Daniel Evans. The tower has thick defensive walls, a slate saddleback roof with crowsteps and obelisk finials added in 1836, and may have begun as a coastal watch tower. The nave and transepts form a cross plan; Coflein notes random rubble stone, low-pitched slate eaves roofs, and that the nave may reuse masonry from an earlier double-naved church. The plain chancel was probably remodelled after 1845. Stone traceried windows and internal alterations of 1891 are by J P Seddon and J Coates Carter.

The site is thought to be early medieval. An octagonal oolite font bowl of around 1500 bears the arms of Sir Rhys ap Thomas. Medieval consecration crosses are built into the facework. The church stands in a polygonal churchyard about 100 m north-east of the village crossroads.
