# St Peter, Whatcote

St Peter’s is a Grade II* parish church in Whatcote, Warwickshire, in the Diocese of Coventry and the parish of Tysoe with Oxhill and Whatcote.

## Overview

Historic England records a church of the twelfth to fourteenth centuries, restored in 1820 and repaired around 1940. The fabric is ashlar and coursed ironstone rubble, with ironstone banded with limestone at the east end, and tile and slate roofs with stone-coped gables. The plan comprises chancel, nave, west tower and south porch. The Romanesque north doorway has billet and cable mouldings (now blocked), with two tall round-headed windows; the south side has lancets and Y-tracery lights. The two-stage west tower is thirteenth-century, with an embattled parapet. A priest is recorded at Whatcote in 1086. Warwickshire’s historic environment record notes that an enemy bomb in 1941 destroyed the south wall of the nave west of the porch and part of the nave roof; the church was restored in 1947. Interior fittings include an eighteenth-century pulpit and altar rails, benches with Perpendicular ends, and a circular stone font.
