# St Peter & St Paul, Scremby

St Peter and St Paul is a Grade II* Georgian parish church on Cooks Lane, Scremby, Lincolnshire, in the Diocese of Lincoln.

## Overview

Historic England records a parish church of 1733 in red brick laid in Flemish bond with greenstone ashlar dressings and copper roofs. The plan is a three-stage western tower, nave and facetted chancel. The tower has a plinth, three stone bands to the offset upper stages, and a parapet with corner pilasters. The west door of twelve panels sits in a Gibbsian surround with pulvinated frieze and pediment, with a semi-circular leaded light above in a rusticated ashlar surround. Nave side walls have ashlar quoins, a brick plinth, an ashlar band and two semi-circular headed leaded lights; the east end of the chancel has a Venetian window in a flat ashlar surround.

Inside, a western gallery has a panelled face and a nineteenth-century rail. Nave and chancel are undifferentiated under a continuous deeply moulded cornice. The facetted chancel walls each have two moulded plaster panels. Fittings include dado panelling throughout, a complete set of panelled pews and a matching pulpit with fluted Doric pilasters. A chair is made from two fifteenth-century poppy-head bench ends; the octagonal font on a moulded base is also fifteenth-century. The stained-glass east window is by O'Connor, 1861. Lincolnshire Heritage Explorer records a restoration of 1884.
