# St Peter & St Paul, Courteenhall

St Peter and St Paul is a Grade II* parish church of ironstone in the estate village of Courteenhall, Northamptonshire, in the Diocese of Peterborough.

## Overview

Historic England dates the fabric from the thirteenth to the seventeenth century, with reseating and reflooring in 1886, partial restoration in 1897 and further work in 1912. The church is of coursed ironstone rubble with ironstone dressings and lead roofs, comprising a two-bay chancel, north chancel chapel, aisled nave, north and south porches and a three-stage west tower with a many-moulded west door, Decorated bell-openings and a battlemented parapet. The chancel has a five-light east window with late-nineteenth- or early-twentieth-century intersecting tracery, an ogee-headed blocked priest’s door, and a fine piscina and three-seat sedilia with ogee heads and crocketed hoods.

The north arcade includes a circular pier with a stiff-leaf capital. Fittings include a plain circular tub font, an early-nineteenth-century Gothick communion table, a fragment of medieval wall painting, and monuments to the Ouseley, Jones and Wake families, among them a black-and-white marble monument to Sir Samuel Jones (d. 1672) attributed to William Stanton. The church is normally locked; visits are by arrangement.
