# St Peter and St Paul, Chipping Warden

St Peter and St Paul at Chipping Warden, Northamptonshire, is a Grade I parish church with blocked Norman arches in the chancel and Decorated and Perpendicular fabric, in the Diocese of Peterborough.

## Overview

Two blocked round arches in the north wall of the chancel suggest fabric of about 1200. A chancel window predates 1300. Decorated work includes the south-aisle windows; the east window of the chancel, the four-bay nave arcades and the west tower are early Perpendicular. Historic England notes sedilia and piscina with detached shafts, a font with shields and fleurs-de-lys, a painted cover dated 1662, seventeenth-century screens and pulpit, and brasses to William Smarte, rector (d.1468), and William Makepiece (d.1584). The parish is now in the benefice of Culworth with Sulgrave, Thorpe Mandeville, Chipping Warden, Edgcote and Moreton Pinkney. Listed Grade I on 4 February 1969 (NHLE 1041206).
