Overview
Historic England lists a cruciform building with a south chapel to the chancel, south parvise porch and west tower. The core is thirteenth century, with fifteenth-century windows; the south or Wickens chapel, south porch and tower were added in the fifteenth century. After a fire in 1590 the nave roof was rebuilt in 1592 and the chancel roof in 1620. The churchyard has good eighteenth-century headstones. Listing NGR is TQ 95442 49381.
Kent HER and Pevsner note a flint body with a ragstone-ashlar west tower among the most ambitious in the county; bequests to the tower work run from 1479 to 1537. The church stands by the Market Place, beside the remains of the Archbishop’s Palace on the Pilgrims’ Way. The parish is in the Diocese of Canterbury.
