# St Peter, Mevagissey

St Peter’s on Church Lane, Mevagissey, Cornwall, is a Grade II* cruciform parish church, perhaps twelfth-century, reworked in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries and restored in 1887–88 by J. P. St Aubyn, in the Diocese of Truro.

## Overview

Historic England records a cruciform structure, perhaps twelfth-century, reworked in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries and restored in 1887–88 by J. P. St Aubyn, of granite and mixed rubble with a north arcade of Pentewan stone and slate roofs. The plan has a west tower, nave, chancel, north aisle, south transept and south porch. The stocky west tower has a saddleback roof and an upper stage of 1887–88, reinstating a medieval stage ruinous by the seventeenth century. The inner south door is Norman. The church was formerly dedicated to Saints Mewan and Issey, from whom the town takes its name, and was previously listed as the Church of St Mewan and St Issey. Fittings include a Norman font. Listed Grade II* on 28 November 1950, amended 11 March 1974 (NHLE 1210661). The parish is Mevagissey.
