Overview
Cadw records a continuous chancel and nave, probably fifteenth century and representing the original church, with a transept probably added in the seventeenth century to form a cruciform plan. The church was restored in 1840 and again in 1885. Windows are characteristic of other Anglesey churches whose restoration was funded by Lord Stanley of Alderley. The fabric is rubble masonry with large stones as quoins, some sandstone dressings, and a slate roof with a single dressed-stone bellcote on the west gable.
The fifteenth-century north doorway is a pointed arch in a rectangular frame with casement-moulded jambs and geometric patterns in the spandrels; the moulded label is flanked by carved human faces, one wearing a bishop's mitre. An opposing south doorway, also probably fifteenth century, is partly infilled with a window. Internally the roof is of braced and collared trusses, probably mid nineteenth century. The reading desk is made from two later fifteenth-century bench ends, one carved with a mermaid holding a comb and mirror, brought from St Elian, Llaneilian. Cadw lists the church as a good rural building retaining substantial medieval fabric.
