Overview
The National Churches Trust and the Diocese of Blackburn record an original church of 1724, consecrated as a chapel in 1725, demolished and replaced in 1885–86 by the present sandstone church under a Cumbrian slate roof. The land was given by Madeline Clifton, widow of Thomas Henry Clifton. The Liverpool partnership of Aldridge & Deacon designed a late Victorian parish church with an open flèche bell turret at the junction of nave and chancel roofs. A side chapel is dedicated to Christ the Carpenter, named for craftsmen and technicians in the village.
The parish of Warton near Kirkham was formed in 1846. The church stands in an eighteenth-century churchyard and remains in regular use. The Church Heritage Record places it at SD 411 286, in the Archdeaconry of Lancaster.
