Overview
Catholic worship had occupied a reused late-eighteenth-century building here since 1802, serving Soho’s Irish population; the parish claims to be among the first in England dedicated to St Patrick. Kelly’s Italianate church has a 125-foot campanile over the west entrance, a stone Corinthian porch inscribed UT CHRISTIANI ITA ET ROMANI SITIS, an aisled nave, apsidal sanctuary and south chapel. Dark red brick with rubbed detail is comparatively rare for the 1890s. Late-eighteenth-century monuments and altars were retained. The adjoining presbytery at 21A is listed separately. The church is in the Diocese of Westminster.
