# St Odulph, Pillaton

St Odulphus at Pillaton, Cornwall, is a Grade I parish church in the Diocese of Truro, dedicated to the Brabant missionary saint Odulph. The village history records a dedication on 16 October 1259; the standing fabric is mainly fourteenth- and fifteenth-century.

## Overview

Historic England lists a parish church, probably fourteenth-century, with additions of about the mid-fifteenth century and later fifteenth century, and a nineteenth-century restoration. The fabric is slatestone rubble with granite dressings; the tower, south porch and south transept are granite ashlar, under a slate roof with crested ridge tiles. Nave and chancel are in one; a north aisle was added in the early fifteenth century, then the south transept with rood stair, south porch and west tower. The three-stage west tower has set-back buttresses, an embattled parapet with pinnacles and a four-centred west doorway. The porch retains a late fifteenth-century wagon roof with moulded ribs, carved bosses and a wall-plate of pomegranates and flowers.

Inside, the north aisle and south transept have ceiled fifteenth-century wagon roofs; the nave and chancel have a nineteenth-century roof. A six-bay north arcade has four-centred hollow-chamfered arches. An unusually wide south squint leads to the rood stair. Fittings include Royal Arms of Charles II (1663) and George II (1729) and seventeenth-century stocks in the porch. Lightning struck a pinnacle on 21 January 2013; repairs costing about £370,000 were completed that year. The church is open from 9am to 6pm, or sunset in winter.
