# St Nicholas, East Grafton

St Nicholas is a Grade II* parish church on The Green, East Grafton, Wiltshire, in the Diocese of Salisbury.

## Overview

Historic England records an Anglican parish church of 1844 by Benjamin Ferrey, in limestone ashlar and square rubble with a slate roof. The style is Norman (of Normandy) revival, said to be based on the church at Thaon, Normandy. The plan has nave and aisles, a short chancel and apse, and a three-stage tower over the west end of the north aisle with a pyramidal roof. The listing calls the whole a triumph of a normally difficult revival style.

The interior has a five-bay nave with varied scalloped capitals, a two-bay barrel-vaulted chancel with an apsidal end, and encaustic-tile paving. Fittings include a limestone arcaded font, an oak pulpit with intersecting arcading, and an organ by Bevington of London. Apsidal glass depicts St Margaret, St Nicholas and the Resurrection; aisle glass is mostly of 1856; the west window is by Willement. The parish states that the church is of Bath stone, with an apse and campanile, and stands on the south side of the village green.
