# St Nicholas, Askham

St Nicholas’s is a Grade II* Church of England parish church on Town Street, Askham, Nottinghamshire, an unaisled medieval church in the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham.

## Overview

The listing dates fabric from the twelfth to the fifteenth centuries. Norman masonry survives in the south nave wall. The chancel is thirteenth-century, with lancets and a Decorated east window. Late-fourteenth-century windows light the nave. The two-stage fifteenth-century west tower is diagonally buttressed, embattled, and has eight crocketed pinnacles. The church was restored and re-roofed in 1863 and again in 1906–07, when the south porch was added. Internally Pevsner noted a diagonally placed ogee-headed niche at the nave–chancel junction. Three bells hang dead on a steel frame.

Historic England listed the church Grade II* on 1 February 1967 (list entry 1045707). It is in The Rivers benefice (Retford) with East Markham, Grove, and Headon-cum-Upton.
