St Michael's Church is a Grade I listed Church of England parish church in Shotwick, Cheshire.

Overview

St Michael's Church is a Grade I listed Church of England parish church in Shotwick, Cheshire. It features a Norman doorway and Gothic architecture. The churchyard contains several Grade II listed structures. It is an active parish church in the Diocese of Chester.

The church dates back to the Domesday Book and was largely rebuilt in the 14th century. Restorations occurred in 1851 and the 1970s. Parish registers date from 1698.

Built of New Red Sandstone with a mix of Welsh slate and purple tile roofing. The south doorway is Norman with chevron decorations. The Perpendicular-style tower dates from around 1500.

Features include box pews, a canopied churchwardens' pew from 1709, a three-decker pulpit, late 17th-century altar rails, and 14th-century stained glass. The tower houses a ring of six bells, with the oldest cast in 1616.

The churchyard includes Grade II listed gates, gatepiers, a sundial from 1720, and several tombchests. There are also war graves of nine Royal Air Force officers from World War I.
