# St Michael, Mavis Enderby

St Michael’s is a Grade II* parish church on Church Lane, Mavis Enderby, Lincolnshire, in the Diocese of Lincoln.

## Overview

Historic England lists a fourteenth- and fifteenth-century parish church restored by James Fowler in 1875, with the tower rebuilt in 1894 by C. Hodgson Fowler. The fabric is squared greenstone rubble with limestone ashlar dressings and slate roofs. The plan is nave, western tower, south aisle and porch, chancel and vestry. The three-stage fifteenth-century tower, largely rebuilt in the nineteenth century, has stepped corner buttresses, a plain parapet and crocketed pinnacles; a datestone of 1684 marks an earlier collapse and rebuild, and another of 1894 the later work. The north nave has a fifteenth-century doorway and two fourteenth-century three-light windows with reticulated tracery. A three-bay fifteenth-century south arcade has octagonal piers. The listing notes a continuously moulded fourteenth-century inner south door with fleuron frieze and a holy-water stoup on a clustered shaft. The parish account records a fourteenth-century octagonal font on a Minton-tile dais, a retained fifteenth-century chancel arch, and wooden angels said to have come from Louth. Nineteenth-century gabled dormers light the nave.
