# St Michael, Buslingthorpe

St Michael’s is a Grade II* redundant church in the hamlet of Buslingthorpe, Lincolnshire, now in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust, standing beside a partly moated farm on the site of a deserted medieval village.

## Overview

The two-stage west tower is thirteenth-century coursed limestone with a pyramidal slate roof. In 1835 Edward James Willson restored the church and rebuilt the nave and chancel in yellow brick, leaving a simple plan of tower, nave and chancel. The church was declared redundant in 1984. It is in the historic Diocese of Lincoln and was listed Grade II* on 1 November 1966 (NHLE 1359510).

The building is notable for two medieval monuments to the Buslingthorpe family: an early fourteenth-century limestone slab with one of the earliest military brasses in England, showing a knight in chain mail holding a heart; and a late fourteenth-century tomb chest with a recumbent knight. Fittings are largely nineteenth-century except a reused octagonal font bowl; fragments of fourteenth-century glass survive in the east window.
