# St Michael the Archangel, Kirkby in Malhamdale

St Michael the Archangel is a Grade I Church of England parish church at Kirkby Malham, North Yorkshire, in the Diocese of Leeds.

## Overview

Historic England lists a late fifteenth-century parish church restored in 1879–81. The fabric is squared millstone grit, with lead roofs to the side aisles, slate to the nave and chancel, and a stone-slate roof to the hearse house. The plan is a two-bay chancel, four-bay nave, north and south aisles with side chapels, south porch, north hearse house, and west tower. Windows include three-light aisle lights with round heads and hoodmoulds ending in grotesques, and an embattled nave parapet.

The 1879–81 restoration was by Paley and Austin, funded by Walter Morrison of Malham Tarn House. There was a pre-Norman church on the site. Interior fittings noted in the listing include seventeenth- and early eighteenth-century box pews, trefoil-headed niches on the arcade pillars, and two piscinae in the south aisle. The parish is Kirkby-in-Malhamdale.
