# St Michael & All Angels, Urchfont

St Michael and All Angels is a Grade I parish church on Church Lane, Urchfont, Wiltshire, in the Diocese of Salisbury and the Cannings and Redhorn Team.

## Overview

Historic England records a late thirteenth- to early fourteenth-century cruciform church with nave, aisles, south porch, transepts and chancel, a late fifteenth-century west tower, and a nineteenth-century vestry. The fabric is limestone and greensand rubble with ashlar dressings; the south transept has flint infill and the north malmstone. Roofs are lead, with stone tiles to the chancel and porch. The church was restored in 1864 and 1900.

The listing highlights an exceptional four-centred stone vault in the porch and a chancel vault of six close-spaced bays dated 1320–25, compared by Pevsner with Bristol Cathedral, with bosses carved with St Michael, Abraham, a pelican and a mermaid. The chancel arch is early thirteenth-century, with billet moulding and stiff-leaf nook shafts. Chancel glass includes work by Wailes; the east window is of 1889.
