St Michael & All Angels, Moccas

St Michael and All Angels at Moccas, Herefordshire, is a Grade I mid-twelfth-century Romanesque parish church of tufa, restored in 1870 by George Gilbert Scott Junior, in the Diocese of Hereford.

Overview

Historic England records a mid-twelfth-century parish church with some fourteenth-century alterations, restored in 1870 by George Gilbert Scott Junior. It is built of tufa with some sandstone dressings under a graduated stone tile roof, on a nave-and-chancel plan with an apse — a rare two-cell Romanesque church sharing a ground plan with Kilpeck. The south door has a two-order semicircular arch with chevron; the chancel and apse arches are also chevron-ornamented. Fittings include a twelfth-century font bowl, a fourteenth-century recumbent knight in the chancel, fourteenth-century glass in window heads, and an organ of the 1870s with a case painted by Thomas Kempe. Listed Grade I on 2 September 1966 (NHLE 1157759). The church stands in Moccas Park in the Diocese of Hereford.
