# St Michael & All Angels, Brodsworth

St Michael and All Angels is a Grade II* parish church in Brodsworth, near Doncaster, in the Diocese of Sheffield and the Parish of Bilham, close to Brodsworth Hall.

## Overview

Historic England records a church with an eleventh-century nave, additions of about 1200, the fifteenth and nineteenth centuries, and a restoration of 1874 (Wikipedia and the Brodsworth listed-buildings survey give C. Hodgson Fowler, 1874–75). The fabric is rubble and ashlar limestone with red tile and sheet metal roofs. The plan has a west tower of about 1200, a three-bay aisled nave, a three-bay chancel with north chapel and vestry, and a two-bay south chapel. The tower has angle buttresses, a later belfry stage with two-light openings under four-centred arches, gargoyles and an embattled parapet. An embattled south nave parapet against the tower is a relic of the eleventh-century tower.

The interior retains half-round imposts with broad capitals from the eleventh-century tower base, pierced by a later north-aisle arch. The nineteenth-century south aisle arcade has quatrefoil piers and double-chamfered arches. The church serves the traditional parish of Brodsworth and visitors to the nearby English Heritage house and gardens.
