# St Mary the Virgin, Whiston

St Mary the Virgin at Whiston, Northamptonshire, is a Grade I Church of England parish church in the Diocese of Peterborough, a complete early-sixteenth-century Perpendicular hall church built for Anthony Catesby.

## Overview

Historic England lists the Church of St Mary the Virgin (NHLE 1190018, listed 3 May 1968). The list records a church of the early sixteenth century, probably completed in 1534, of limestone ashlar with lead roofs: chancel, aisled nave, south porch and west tower, in Perpendicular style. The three-stage tower is faced chiefly in ironstone ashlar with limestone bands and dressings, clasping buttresses and a panelled battlemented parapet. The interior is a hall church with no clerestory or chancel arch. The south porch is battlemented and has a panelled stone vault. Some original polygonal battlemented lead rainwater heads survive. The church is in the civil parish of Cogenhoe and Whiston and in the Yardley Hastings benefice.
