Overview
Historic England dates the building to the mid fourteenth century with nineteenth-century work. It is of squared coursed ironstone with limestone dressings and a lead roof: an aisled nave, chancel, transepts, south porch and west tower with spire. Windows include ogee-headed lights with reticulated and Y-tracery. The parish marks about 1350 as the date of the present church; a font of about 1100 points to an earlier church on or near the site. Croxton Abbey in Leicestershire once held the living.
Interior fittings recorded in the list entry include a notable strainer or inverted arch, remains of a fourteenth-century chancel roof and vaulting, sedilia and piscina, a stone chancel screen of about 1858, and an organ case of about 1717 by Christopher Schrider, originally associated with St George’s Chapel, Windsor. There are numerous monuments to the Dolben family. The church stands on Church Hill in the Diocese of Peterborough.
