# St Mary, Ticehurst

St Mary’s is a Grade II* Church of England parish church on Church Street, Ticehurst, East Sussex, a large fourteenth-century church in the Diocese of Chichester.

## Overview

The listing describes chancel with north and south chapels, aisled nave, a north porch with a room over, and a west tower with a broached shingled spire. Most of the fabric is fourteenth century; the porch (its upper room once used as a prison) and the west window are fifteenth century. William Slater restored the church in 1857. Fittings include a carved sixteenth-century font canopy with folding doors. A brass to John Wyborne and his wives Cecily and Agnes, about 1365, is in the church. The hymn-writer Francis Pott was priest here from 1861 to 1866. Since 1978 the parish has been in a united benefice with St Augustine, Flimwell.

Historic England listed the church Grade II* on 3 August 1961 (list entry 1222324; amended 13 May 1987).
