# St Mary, Stratford St Mary

St Mary’s is a Grade I parish church beside the B1029 at Stratford St Mary, Suffolk, in the Diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich.

## Overview

Historic England records a fourteenth-century chancel with later alterations, fifteenth-century nave aisles, a sixteenth-century clerestory, north chancel chapel and porch (the porch dated 1532), and a fifteenth- to sixteenth-century tower largely rebuilt in the nineteenth century. Henry Woodyer restored the church in 1876–79. The fabric is knapped flint with ashlar dressings and flushwork parapets to clerestory, aisles and chapels.

The listing notes dedicatory inscriptions on the north aisle, including one of 1530 asking prayers for Edward and Alys Mors. Simon Knott records a companion inscription of 1499 for Thomas and Margaret Mores, who built an aisle, and flint flushwork that rivals Dedham across the Stour. The east window is of 1876–79.
