# St Mary & St Lawrence, Stratford Tony

The Church of St Mary and St Lawrence stands on the south bank of the River Ebble at Stratford Tony, south Wiltshire, a Grade I redundant church in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust.

## Overview

Historic England records an Anglican parish church, now redundant, with a thirteenth-century north door, fourteenth-century chancel, fifteenth-century tower and eighteenth-century nave work. The plan is chancel, nave, west tower and north porch. The three-stage west tower is of good-quality chequer work with a pyramidal tiled roof. The chancel has fourteenth-century two-light windows and reticulated tracery to the east window. Interior fittings include a coved plaster nave ceiling, a thirteenth-century cusped piscina, and wall tablets to Elizabeth Hill (d. 1715) and George Taunton (d. 1832, signed Osmond of Sarum). Listed Grade I on 23 March 1960 (NHLE 1181901).

The church was declared redundant on 1 October 1984 and vested in the Churches Conservation Trust on 26 March 1986. An annual service is held. The former parish is in the Diocese of Salisbury.
