# St Mary, Shaw cum Donnington

St Mary’s on Church Road, Shaw, beside Shaw House near Newbury, is a Grade II Norman Revival parish church of 1840–42 by Joseph Hansom, with a chancel of 1878 by William Butterfield, in the Diocese of Oxford.

## Overview

Historic England records a church of 1840–42 by Joseph Hansom and a chancel of 1878 by William Butterfield. The west tower, nave and south porch are Bath stone ashlar; the chancel and north vestry are flint with Bath stone dressings, under a slate roof. The tower is of three stages with a short spire. The interior has a west gallery and roof of about 1840, a plain Norman font retained from the earlier church on the site, and a chancel wagon roof with contemporary painted decoration. Monuments include a good memorial of 1707 to Sir Thomas Dolman. Listed Grade II on 6 April 1967 (NHLE 1291032). The church stands next to Elizabethan Shaw House in the parish of Shaw cum Donnington.
