# St Mary, Port Glasgow

St Mary the Virgin is a Category C Scottish Episcopal church on Bardrainney Avenue, Port Glasgow, Inverclyde, in the Diocese of Glasgow and Galloway.

## Overview

Historic Environment Scotland listed the church, adjoining hall and rectory, and boundary wall on 11–12 August 2024 (LB52608, Category C). It was built in 1982–84 to designs by Frank Burnet, Bell and Partners: a pale orange brick Z-plan complex on a rocky outcrop, with an adjoining hall, offices and rectory. It replaced an earlier Episcopal church of St Mary the Virgin (1856–57, near Newark Castle) demolished in 1977 for the A8 dual-carriageway. HES notes fixtures salvaged from the predecessor building and a little-altered later-modern church that retains its original ancillary buildings and setting. HES Category C listing cannot be stored on the list-entry field used for Historic England and Cadw URLs.
